The WHED is a dataset that contains institution-level information on higher education institutions around the world. The dataset is compiled and maintained by the International Association of Universities (IAU). Sadly, the IAU does not provide an structured version of the dataset available for download. The whed package provides an easy fix and makes the dataset available in a structured format.

What can you do with the WHED dataset?

You can use the WHED dataset to answer questions such as:

  • How many higher education institutions are there in a given country or sub-national region?
  • What types of degrees are offered by higher education institutions?
  • How do local labor market characteristics relate to the structure of higher education in a given area?

Coverage

The WHED dataset contains information on over 20,000 higher education institutions across 181 countries.
